all about that glow

Hey hey you beautiful people,

I’m popping in today with a blog post that to be honest I’m slightly confused with myself as to why it didn’t get written ages ago! It’s all about a topic I’m super passionate about - skin and skin care! If you’ve been here for a while you’ll know I’m obsessed with skin care and a big goal of mine this year was to really take care of my skin so I thought I’d share some of my favourites with you and what I’m currently doing!

I’m a huge believer that beauty begins on the inside. Our skin is our largest organ, and it’s a great indicator of what’s happening inside our bodies, in particular a reflection of our gut health. So for me when I decided I wanted to really focus on my skin health this year, a huge part of that was figuring out how to support my gut a bit better.

A brief overview of how I support

my skin:

  • Eat a whole food based diet - lots of beautiful leafy greens, veggies and fruit and healthy fats are a big one for skin. I try to avoid too many refined and processed foods. Also limit sugar and sweet RTD’s. My skin and alcohol aren’t besties. I’m certainly not perfect but it's what we do 80% of the time right?

  • Drink 2-3 litres a day. Admittedly I don’t nail this everyday but I notice a massive difference when I’m consistent. We are up to 60% water, so it makes sense to hydrate.

  • Sleep. Beauty sleep is a real thing

  • Sweat - get that body moving and sweat. Sweat actually does a lot for our skin, its a natural cooling system and flushes out grime or any impurities. I do just like to splash my face with water directly after working out though just to remove any bacteria mainly due to us touching our faces

  • Managing stress - everyone does this differently. But if you’re anything like me, my face is a reflection of what stress is going on and how well I’m managing that.

Supplement support:

  • Omega - Omegas are amazing not only for skin but also for heart, brain and eye health. Reducing inflammation and supporting nervous system function, omega 3 fatty acids play an essential role in both the structure and appearance of skin. The body can’t make enough essential fatty acids for itself, so hence why I supplement. I take a vegan omega which includes omega 3, 6, 7, and 9 because it means I now avoid the fishy aftertaste and don’t need to shot cod liver oil. I have been taking this one for over 5 months and its the best. Plus a lot of the farming done for omega supplements isn’t very sustainable, with lots of overfishing so I love that the one I take is all made from plants.

  • Beauty Chef Glow powder - I have been taking this for probably 3 years now and swear by this product. It contains pre and probiotics so it feeds your microbiome and aids digestion. It tastes like berries and is designed to boost collagen production and support healthy skin, nails and hair. I notice a big difference when I stop taking this.

  • Wholefood capsules - I spoke above about eating a whole food based diet. Whilst I am a health coach and study nutrition so know what I should be eating, actually getting in my daily intake of vegetables and fruit (particularly berries for skin) doesn’t always happen. So these bridge the gap for me and ensure I’m getting in everything I need to thrive.

  • I have taken collagen in the past but I haven’t found one I love yet so still trying

And now onto skincare, I thought the easiest way was to break this down into a morning and night-time for you:

Morning

Cleanse:

I switch between Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Cleanser and the Kiehls cucumber herbal conditioning Cleanser. I am yet to decide which one I like better so I just continue to alternate.

Toner:

Kiehls calendula herbal extract alcohol-free toner. I never used to use toner, but when I had my last skin consult I learnt that toner enables our oils and serums to penetrate the skin better so I started using it. I just like how refreshing this step is

Oil:

My holy grail. I am on my 5th bottle of this gold. Kiehls daily reviving face oil, my first ever facial oil and Kiehls product. Haha as you can tell I am now a convert. A few of my friends have also tried and loved this product. Game changer

Serum:

Kiehls Powerful Strength Vitamin C serum. I was initially gifted this product and have repurchased. It's warming on the skin, I noticed a brighter complexion after using it for 2 weeks  and my makeup sits so well on top of this.

Eye Cream:

If I had written this a month ago I would have said Kiehls creamy eye treatment, which I still love but my go to at the moment is the Fresh lotus youth preserve eye cream. This brightens my eyes in the morning. (#gifted, will be repurchasing)

I also use sunscreen in the morning, but my current one I’m using I don’t love for my skin so I have ordered a different one to try.

Night-time

Oil Cleanse:

Kiehls midnight recovery botanical cleansing oil to get my makeup off. Doesn’t sting my eyes which is a huge reason I love this product.

Cleanse:

Same as the morning but I use a skin sonic too for a deeper cleanse.

Oil:

Kiehls midnight recovery face oil. This is the night time version of my day one, so it's not surprise I loved this when I tried it. It smells like lavender so it also makes me feel a little sleepy at night.

Moisturiser:

This changes depending on what my skin is doing. My current favourite is the fresh lotus youth preserve dream face cream, I wake up in the morning with very hydrated skin. Or I will go for the Kiehls ultra facial cream.

Eye cream:

Either the same as morning or the Estee Lauder advanced night repair eye concentrate matrix - its the massaging applicator that just makes this!

I thought I’d also mention I love face masks! It’s one of my favourite forms of self care. I like to do one atleast once a week. I have a few go tos - anything Kiehls. My favourites are the avocado face mask because I have dry skin so this is really hydrating. Or if its coming up to that time of the month of I’ve eaten a bit much sugar/ my skin is having a meltdown - then I opt for the Kiehls rare earth deep pore cleansing mask. Absolute game changer.

I don’t use sheet masks that often but when I do I love the go to skincare ones.

Recent purchases not yet tried:
